Tyskland – Rieslingens hemland

Did you know that Germany has a wine queen?
🌸
Every wine region has a queen, and each queen applies annually for the German Wine Queen crown.
🌸
During the election, the candidates prove their knowledge about German wine; from the effects of climate change, to current trends in wine making and food/wine pairings. Their knowledge is tested in front of huge audiences, requiring spontaneity and a quick-wit.
🌸
The 71st German Wine Queen was crowned last month - Angelina Vogt from the Nahe region. She will represent the nation in over 200 worldwide wine events this year as well as visiting the 13 German wine regions, meeting the regional majesties.

Have you ever wondered why some bottles have screw caps?
🌿
Sustainable wineries always attempt to use resources as efficiently as possible. Every stage in the production process from pruning to dispatch has to be regularly scrutinized and improved.
🌿
In bottled wine production, thin-walled bottles and screw caps are employed as these are cheaper and better to produce and transport.

How do sustainability-oriented wineries operate?
♻️
Wine estates which have adopted sustainable winegrowing practices endeavour to constantly optimize their overall operations, work in the vineyard, cellar management and marketing/sales as part of a holistic sustainability approach.
♻️
Every stage in the production process from pruning to dispatch has to be regularly scrutinized and improved.
♻️
In the vineyard, this means implementing crop protection products and fertilizers only when necessary and in consideration of environmental protection criteria.
♻️
The motto here is “as much as necessary, as little as possible”. #germanwines#sustainability#winery#sustainablewine
Have you ever heard Federweißer?
🌊
If you hold a glass to you ear, Federweißer will sound like rushing waves.
🌊
Ideally, you drink Federweißer when it has come half way between grape juice and wine, when sweetness, alcohol content and fruit acidity are well balanced. At this stage, its alcohol content amounts to around 5 % vol.
